Dynamic downscaling of wind speed over the North Atlantic Ocean using CMIP6 projections: Implications for offshore wind power density

چکیده
Offshore wind energy is an important agent to fight climate change. However, it simultaneously very sensitive This study analyzes the future changes in speed of 10 m above sea surface (V10) North Atlantic Ocean and how these variations may affect offshore resources for three potential subregions (the United States (US) East Coast, western Iberian Peninsula, Caribbean Sea). Dynamic downscaling different scenarios CESM2 global model (CMIP6 project) was performed using WRF-ARW atmospheric model. V10 expected decrease winter spring seasons but increase summer autumn, mainly tropical regions up 30 °N. Annually, shows maximum region. For Peninsula subregion, significant increases are power density (WPD) along 21st century, there uncertainty other seasons. A WPD autumn century US subregion. No were observed at annual scale. Finally, Sea, a projected Yucatan Basin considerable foreseen Colombia Venezuela basins.

Wind power distribution over the ocean
[1] Probability distribution and power density of wind speed over global oceans are computed from eight years of QuikSCAT measurements. They describe the variation and higher moments of wind speed that are critical in relating the non-linear effects of wind on electric power generation capability, shipping hazard, and air-sea exchanges in heat, water, and greenhouse gases. The power density dis...
متن کاملDynamic characterization and predictability analysis of wind speed and wind power time series in Spain wind farm
The renewable energy resources such as wind power have recently attracted more researchers’ attention. It is mainly due to the aggressive energy consumption, high pollution and cost of fossil fuels. In this era, the future fluctuations of these time series should be predicted to increase the reliability of the power network. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics and short-term predictabili...
متن کاملPricing offshore wind power
Offshore wind offers a very large clean power resource, but electricity from the first US offshore wind contracts is costlier than current regional wholesale electricity prices. To better understand the factors that drive these costs, we develop a pro-forma cash flow model to calculate two results: the levelized cost of energy, and the breakeven price required for financial viability. We then d...
متن کاملInterannual Variability of High-Wind Occurrence over the North Atlantic*
Interannual variability of high-wind occurrence over the North Atlantic is investigated based on observations from the satellite-borne Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I). Despite no wind direction being included, SSM/I data capture major features of high-wind frequency (HWF) quite well. Climatology maps show that HWF is highest in winter and is close to zero in summer. Remarkable interannu...
